Strengthening road safety, HIV/AIDS prevention, and healthcare access for vulnerable populations across Uganda.
Road traffic accidents and preventable diseases like HIV/AIDS continue to claim lives and devastate families. We are working to change that.
Our Road Safety and Healthcare Access program addresses two interconnected challenges: the high rate of road traffic accidents and the limited access to healthcare, including HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. We work with communities to promote road safety awareness, improve emergency response, and strengthen healthcare systems. We also focus on HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, and treatment, particularly for vulnerable populations. By addressing both safety and health, we aim to save lives and build healthier communities.
We address road safety and healthcare access through these strategic pillars.
We promote road safety through community campaigns, school programs, and driver training. We raise awareness about traffic rules, pedestrian safety, and the dangers of drunk driving.
We train community members in first aid and basic emergency response, and we advocate for improved ambulance services and trauma care in rural areas.
We support HIV/AIDS prevention through awareness campaigns, distribution of condoms, voluntary testing and counselling, and linkage to treatment and care services.
We partner with health facilities to improve access to quality healthcare, particularly for rural and marginalised communities. We support health system strengthening and community health programs.
We advocate for safer roads, pedestrian crossings, and traffic calming measures. We work with local governments to improve road infrastructure and enforce traffic regulations.
We promote overall community health and wellness through health education, disease prevention, and support for vulnerable populations, including those living with HIV/AIDS.
Guided by Uganda's Road Safety Strategy, the National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan, and the Health Sector Development Plan.
Through awareness campaigns, driver training, and advocacy, reduce road traffic accidents in target communities by 25% over three years.
Train 1,000 community members in first aid and establish community-based emergency response teams in 20 districts.
Reach 50,000 people with HIV/AIDS awareness messages and facilitate voluntary testing and counselling for 10,000 individuals annually.
Strengthen health facilities and community health programs to improve access to quality healthcare for 20,000 people in underserved communities.
Engage local governments and stakeholders to implement road safety measures, including pedestrian crossings, speed bumps, and traffic enforcement.
Provide comprehensive support – including treatment adherence, nutrition, and psychosocial support – to 3,000 people living with HIV/AIDS.
Understanding the scale of road safety and healthcare challenges.
Uganda has one of the highest road traffic accident rates in Africa, with over 20,000 crashes annually, causing thousands of deaths and injuries.
Uganda has an estimated 1.4 million people living with HIV/AIDS, with stigma, limited access to testing, and treatment adherence challenges.
Many rural communities lack access to quality healthcare, with understaffed facilities, limited medicines, and long distances to health centres.
Many roads are poorly maintained, lack pedestrian crossings, and have inadequate lighting, increasing the risk of accidents, especially at night.
Your support helps save lives on our roads and improves healthcare access for vulnerable communities. Together, we can build a safer, healthier Uganda.
